V&Aの収蔵資料「Ensemble T.39:1 to 5-2018」を、2018・Amsterdam・The jacket and jeans are made of the first Cradle to Cradle Certified™ denim at the Gold Level. These certificates are awarded by the non-profit organisation Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, which assesses the materials, recycling potential, energy sources, carbon emissions, water usage and social fairness of products. To create the G-Star Elwood RFTPi jeans and D-Staq RFTPi jacket, G-Star improved the sustainability of each part of the manufacturing process of the denim. The 100% organic cotton is grown without fertilisers or pesticides. G-Star collaborated with dye manufacturer DyStar to create a dye using pre-reduced indigo and an organic agent, which requires fewer chemicals, indigo and no salts. The dyeing process also uses less water than previously and all water is recycled. In collaboration with eco-friendly denim manufacturer Saitex, G-star developed a more sustainable washing technique which employs renewable energy. The jeans’ buttons are replaced by eco-finished buttons. Labelling and packaging are responsibly sourced. G-Star then made manufacturing information available to other companies to encourage the development of a more sustainable industry.
